New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) When US President Barack Obama talks serious business with corporate honchos in Mumbai Saturday evening, First Lady Michelle Obama will be interacting with differently-abled children at the library of Mumbai University, bringing a touch of compassion and social care to the presidential visit.
Michelle will have two stand-alone engagements in India which will be independent of those of her husband. In Mumbai, she will meet and interact with differently-abled children at the programme organised by NGO Making A Difference (MAD).
Michelle will accompany Obama to a school in Mumbai where they will celebrate Diwali with children Sunday morning before touching down in New Delhi late afternoon.
The two will head to the Roosevelt House, the residence of the US ambassador, to interact with staff of the US embassy here and go to Humayun’s tomb in the evening before sitting down for a private dinner with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday night.
Next day, when Obama will be locked in a deep dialogue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday morning, Michelle will find time to sample Indian artefacts at the National Craft Museum, Pragati Maidan.
Michelle is known for bringing a touch of compassion to the White House. Last year, during the first state dinner Obama hosted for Manmohan Singh in Washington, Michelle interacted with underprivileged children and shared with them finer details and ceremonies that go with a White House state dinner, including the choice of cutlery and butler’s uniforms.
