Monterrey (Mexico), June 11 (IANS) Authorities in this Mexican town plan to distribute Viagra, a popular drug used to treat male erectile dysfunction, to local fathers as part of a health campaign coinciding with Father’s Day, EFE news agency reported Wednesday. “During the ‘Healthy Dad’ campaign, fathers will be given packets containing a razor, condoms and Viagra,” Edgar Dimas, the communications director for the Escobedo city hall in Monterrey, said Tuesday.

The campaign is part of the celebrations for Father’s Day, which in Mexico is celebrated every third Sunday in June. This year it falls on June 15.

The distribution of the products will begin Wednesday by medical staff after examining the fathers on whether or not they should be given the famous blue pill, Dimas said.

“Medical brigades made up of doctors will examine fathers at shopping centres and those found to be in good health will be given Viagra,” he said.

The rest, he said, will only be given packets containing safety razors, creams and condoms.

“The campaign, the first in Mexico in which the medication for erectile dysfunction is being handed out, is designed to promote awareness about the need for fathers to exercise,” Dimas added.
