Merchant navy sailor found dead near railway tracks
September 10th, 2010 - 10:28 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 10 (IANS) The body of a merchant navy sailor, who worked with a Singapore-based company, was found near the railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district Friday, police said.
Thirty-five-year-old Gurbachan Singh was a native of Rajasthan.
While the police are yet to ascertain the cause of his death, Singh’s family members suspect foul play.
Police said Singh had left for New Delhi Thursday to meet his son after meeting his wife in Bhopal.
His body was found near the railway tracks in Jajaura town, some 300-km from Lucknow.
“Gurbachan Singh’s family members have alleged that his gold rings and a laptop he was carrying were missing. They believe that miscreants killed him to rob him of the valuables,” police inspector Munna Lal told reporters.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem,” he added.
