Member of pro-Maoist PCAPA held in Bengal
November 12th, 2010 - 8:04 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Nov 12 (IANS) A leader of the pro-Maoist Peoples’ Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) was arrested and 54 others were detained in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district and a huge quantity of explosives seized from them, police said Friday.
“PCAPA leader Anadi Bhuniya was arrested and 54 others were detained for interrogation. A huge quantity of gelatine sticks and explosives were recovered from them,” said West Midnapore Police Superintendent Manoj Verma.
Acting on a tip-off, he said, joint forces launched an operation at Purnapani village of Jhargram sub-division Friday morning.
“The Maoists attacked the security personnel by triggering three landmine blasts in the area. The security forces subsequently retaliated. After a brief exchange of fire, 55 people, including Anadi, were detained near a Maoist hideout,” said Verma.
“The security personnel identified Anadi who was wanted in six cases, including murder, loot and damaging government property. He was arrested soon. The other 54 were brought to Lalgarh police station for interrogation,” he added.
Those not found guilty of association with Maoists would be released, he said.
