July 2nd, 2011 - 12:45 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, July 2 (IANS) A 24-year-old MBBS student from Ghaziabad committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, police said Saturday.
The suicide was detected Friday night when the door of Ankita Singhal’s room was broken open after she did not respond to the hostel warden’s call. No suicide note was recovered.
A native of Ghaziabad, Ankita was a final year student at Ram Murti Smarak Medical College in Bhojipura area, some 250 km from Lucknow.
“Several drugs meant for depression have been recovered from her room,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ritesh Kumar.
“For the last few months, she was not attending her classes regularly. After staying at her home in Ghaziabad for around 14 days, she returned to college last Thursday. Since then, she was remaining aloof,” he added.
