New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) The board of governors for the Medical Council of India (MCI) was reconstituted Friday as the term of the present board expires Saturday, an official release said.
K.K. Talwar, a former director of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, will be the chairman of the new board, replacing eminent gastroenterologist S.K. Sarin.
The other members of the newly-constituted board are K.S. Sharma, Harbhajan Singh Rassam, Rajiv Chintaman Yeravdekar and Purushotham Lal.
The MCI was replaced for a term of one year by a six-member board of governors through an ordinance last year. The term of the board was extended after a gazette notification was issued Wednesday by the health ministry.
The MCI was suspended after its president Ketan Desai was arrested on graft charges.
