New Delhi, July 8 (IANS) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has earned Rs.10 lakh from the carbon credits generated from the Okhla composting plant, an official said Friday.

With a capacity to process 200 tonnes of solid waste, the plant is run under Public Private Partnership between MCD and Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS;).

The plant has reduced emission of 9,481 tonnes of carbon dioxide, resulting in earnings of about Rs.40 lakh, with the MCD having a share of 25 percent in the revenue.

MCD said the plant was converting waste into compost, which enhances soil productivity, and reducing the amount of waste dumped in landfill sites.
