Lucknow, Sep 17 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding reservation benefits for the Muslims.
In her letter, Mayawati said that Muslims need reservation as they are socially backward, and therefore require “special attention”.
“If necessary, for providing the benefits of reservation to the Muslims, the government should make amendments in the constitution for which the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will extend all support to the central government,” Mayawati said in her letter.
While demanding the reservation, Mayawati also referred to the Sachar Committee report.
“Recommendations of the Sachar Committee must be implemented for raising the socio-economic standards of Muslims, whose are most backward among the minorities,” Mayawti said further in the letter.
