Mayawati move a diversionary tactic, says Mulayam
November 21st, 2011 - 8:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS) Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav Monday lambasted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for getting the assembly to pass a resolution for four-way division of the state, and said the move was aimed to divert attention from charges of corruption dogging her regime.
Talking to mediapersons here, Yadav made it clear that his party will oppose in parliament any demand for division of the state.
He said people of the state shared a common sense of ownership of its historical and cultural places and travelled and interacted with one another in its existing boundaries.
He said Mayawati has come up with the move to divide the state ahead of upcoming elections as she apprehended going to jail over corruption charges.
The SP chief said there was a sense of unease among officials over the move as they faced uncertainty about their service conditions if the state were divided.
“She has done it to divert attention…conditions are really bad due to corruption. There is all round failure,” he said.
Another party leader, Ram Gopal Yadav, said the SP will strongly oppose any move for the state’s division in parliament and may also stall proceedings.
