Maxwell excited about playing in IPL
March 26th, 2012 - 9:38 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 26 (IANS) Delhi Daredevils’ newest recruit Glenn Maxwell of Australia is looking forward to playing alongside famous international cricketers in the Indian Premier League. The all-rounder back home is known for batting at different positions.
Maxwell was drafted into the Daredevils line-up last week as a replacement for Travis Birt. He holds the record for the fastest fifty in Australia’s domestic circuit.
The 23-year-old says India is an ideal place to develop as a cricketer and that he is looking forward to enriching his experience during the cash-rich T20 event.
“The response for the IPL is great back in Australia. Especially for young 20-year-old boys, the IPL provides a perfect base for a promising career,” Maxwell told reporters after a training session at the Ferozeshah Kotla grounds here Monday.
“I am already learning from Indian bowlers how to vary my deliveries and also other tricks of spin bowling,” said the off-spinner.
On his flexible batting capabilities, Maxwell said: “Playing at different positions makes it easier for me to adapt to the requirement of the game. The team might need me to play as a hard-hitting opener or just as a number seven batting all-rounder. It is fun to bat anywhere from 1 to 8.”
Often compared to the explosive David Warner, Maxwell says it inspires him to improve his game without the burden of pressure.
“There is no pressure at all on me as he is a role model. And it also inspires me to improve and may reach the level that Warner has attained. If you are compared to him, it only means good times are ahead of you.”
