Maudany’s wife accused in Kalamassery bus burning case
December 11th, 2009 - 7:58 pm ICT by IANSKochi, Dec 11 (IANS) The Kerala police Friday submitted a report to a court indicting Abdul Nasir Maudany’s wife Sufiya Maudany in the 2005 Kalamassery bus burning case. Arrested “south India chief” of Pakistani militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, T. Nazeer is the prime accused in the arson case.
Kochi Commissioner of Police Manoj Abraham told IANS that they have submitted a report to the court, adding Sufiya Maudany’s name to the list of those accused.
“We have been investigating this case after the Aluva court asked us. We have submitted our report and she has been named the 10th accused in the case,” he said.
Maudany, the chief of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was jailed after being linked to the 1998 serial bombings in Coimbatore but was acquitted in 2007.
The bus burning case took place in 2005 when alleged PDP activists burned a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus after reports that Maudany, then in Coimbatore jail, was being treated badly.
The Kerala police’s action comes after reports that Nazeer and his accomplice, now under custody of Bangalore police, had revealed his links with Sufiya Maudany.
The investigation team has been able to discover that Nazeer and Sufiya did interact.
Fearing arrest, Sufiya Friday approached the Kerala High Court for anticipatory bail.
Justice K.T.Sankaran said that her petition would be heard Monday but declined her plea that she should not be arrested till then.
Meanwhile, Maudany, who was undergoing ayurveda treatment in a private hospital in Kozhikode, is reported to have cut short his treatment and has left the hospital along with Sufiya.
