Ranchi, May 7 (IANS) Former chief minister and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) president Babulal Marandi Saturday ended his seven-day-old fast, demanding a special assembly session to discuss the on-going demolition drive against unauthorised constructions in the state.

He called off his agitation after a Jan Adalat called by his party appealed to him to end the fast.

“This is not the end of the agitation, rather this is the beginning of the agitation. I will go in different districts of the state and step up the agitation to oust the current anti-people government,” said Marandi.

Marandi started the indefinite fast May 1 demanding special session of the assembly to find out ways of tackling the demolition drive launched on the directive of the Jharkhand High Court.

Marandi demanded that the demolition drive should be halted and the state government should constitute a rehabilitation agency to help the displaced people.

The JVM-P Saturday called the Jan Adalat over the ongoing demolition drive. The leaders and people who attended the Jan Adalat appealed to Marandi to end the strike.

The Jan Adalat was also attended and addressed by Bhojpuri singer Manoj Tiwari.

The demolition drive has claimed 13 lives and rendered more than 1.20 lakh people homeless in the state.
