July 10th, 2012 - 10:03 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, July 10 (IANS) Maoists Tuesday set ablaze road construction equipment, including a tractor and an excavator, in Odisha’s Malkangiri district to oppose the building of a road, police said.
About 20-30 armed guerrillas raided the construction site near Nahamamudi village, nearly 700 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, and set the equipment on fire. A Maharastra-based company was building the road.
The rebels were opposed to the construction of road, R.K. Das, inspector in charge of the area police station, told IANS.
“Although some workers were present at the camp, they did no harm them,” he added.
The Maoists are active in more than half of the state. The district of Malkangiri is considered their stronghold.
