A group of heavily armed extremists called out the three victims - Bijay Mahato, Manik Mahato, and Brihaspati Mahato - from their homes in Jhitka village in the wee hours and shot them at point blank range, said a police official.
The bodies were found lying near a college with a handwritten note accusing the trio of being ‘police informers’.
“A people’s court has given them the extreme punishment,” said the note.
There is tension in the area and a police picket has been posted.
In a separate incident, rebels triggered a landmine and blew up the office of the state forest department at Jhitka in Lalgarh area, about 200 km from Kolkata.
