Maoists, police exchange fire in Orissa
May 14th, 2011 - 7:33 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, May 14 (IANS) Security personnel exchanged fire with a group of armed Maoists in a forested area of Orissa’s Malkangiri district Saturday, police said, adding no casualties occurred on either side.
The gunfight, which lasted for a few minutes, occurred after police and security forces raided a Maoist camp and came under fire from the rebels. Security forces retaliated till the rebels’ guns fell silent, a senior state police official told IANS.
Malkangiri, over 618 km from Bhubaneswar, is considered a Maoist stronghold.
