Kolkata, Dec 10 (IANS) Maoists rebels shot dead four workers of West Bengal’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in West Midnapore district Thursday on suspicion that they were police informers.
The CPI-M activists were killed in two incidents.

In the first incident, a group of heavily armed Left-wing extremists shot dead three CPI-M workers in a village close to Jhargram town in West Midnapore district Thursday.

The ultras called out the three victims - Bijay Mahato, Manik Mahato, and Brihaspati Mahato - from their homes in Sebayatan village in the wee hours and shot them at point blank range, a police official said.

The bodies were found lying near a college with a handwritten note accusing the trio of being “police informers”.

“A people’s court has given them the extreme punishment,” said the note.

In the second incident, around five to six motorcycle borne rebels abducted Rabi Mahato from his house in Salgeria village. His family later said for the last two weeks he was getting threat calls.

Villagers later found his body on the nearby road and informed the police.

A Maoist poster found near the body alleged that Mahato was acting as a police sleuth.

Meanwhile, the rebels also triggered a landmine to blow up the office of the state forest department at Jhitka in Lalgarh area, about 200 km from Kolkata.
