Maoists kill two women in Bengal
March 26th, 2011 - 8:12 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, March 26 (IANS) Suspected Maoists have killed two women in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, police said Saturday.
“We recovered two partially decomposed bodies from Ramrama forest near Manikpara in Jhargram sub-division of West Midnapore district Saturday,” West Midnapore Additional Police Superintendent (Operations) Mukesh Kumar told IANS.
“The bodies were identified as that of Anima Bibi and Mona Bibi, who had been missing since Wednesday,” he added.
“Family members of the two women Wednesday lodged complaint that they were abducted by the members of pro-Maoist tribal group - People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA),” Kumar said.
“Mona Bibi and her family recently returned to their home at Muraboni village after they fled from the village, apprehending attacks by Maoists and PCAPA members on them,” he said.
The modus operandi suggests involvement of the Maoists and PCAPA members behind the crime, he added.
The Trinamool Congress and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) claimed that Mona and Anima were their party workers, respectively.
Maoists are active in three western districts of the state — West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
