The murder took place Sunday in a remote area under Manpur police station in the state’s western region bordering Maharashtra, some 275 km from capital Raipur.
“Three armed Maoists walked into a house of local trader Sampat Vyas, 60, in village Kodakhori, and pumped several bullets into him. He died on the spot,” an official at police headquarters here told IANS.
The rebels left a few leaflets after the killing and claimed the man was a spy for local police against Maoists.
