Maoists kill groom, four more (Lead)
May 15th, 2011 - 5:29 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, May 15 (IANS) Maoist guerrillas killed five people of a marriage party including the bridegroom in Jharkhand, suspecting them to be members of a rival group, police said Sunday.
Around 20-25 members of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) late Saturday raided Lokmi village in Gumla district, 140 km from here, to kill the victims.
They suspected the five of being members of the rival People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI).
The killed include bridegroom Gurdev Oraon and his father Cheta Oraon. Two of the victims had arrived from Punjab to attend the marriage.
Police sources say the Maoists were looking for PLFI commander Mangal Nagesia.
“CPI-Maoist and PLFI are involved in a fratricidal war for many years over supremacy in the state,” a police spokesperson told IANS.
Senior police officers reached the village Sunday morning. Additional forces have been deployed in the area as police fear retaliatory attacks - and more killings.
