Maoists kill CPI-M leader, two others in Bengal (Lead)
October 13th, 2010 - 5:44 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 13 (IANS) Maoist guerrillas Wednesday shot dead a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader and two others in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, police said.
“(CPI-M leader) Tapan Dolui was shot dead from point blank range by Maoists while he was ploughing his land adjacent to his village in Jhargram sub-division,” West Midnapore Police Superintendent Manoj Verma said.
Dolui was a member of CPI-M’s Belatikri local committee.
The rebels also shot dead a driver and an unidentified man in separate incidents, police said.
Police said driver Chandan Beswal, a resident of Bamundihi village, was shot dead near the West Midnapore-Bankura border.
Beswal left in his vehicle Wednesday morning and his body with bullet injuries was found in the afternoon, police said.
In another incident, an unidentified man was shot dead by the Maoists at Jowalbhanga village in Jhargram sub-division.
“The person is yet to be identified, he was shot dead around 2.30 p.m. Local people claimed that the victim was a meat-seller and a resident of Joynagar area,” said Jhargram Superintendent of Police Praveen Tripathi.
“The modus operandi in both cases suggests that Maoists were involved,” added Tripathi.
Meanwhile, another CPI-M supporter was shot at early Wednesday in Lalgarh area, police said.
Sridam Mondal was dragged out from his home early Wednesday and shot at. He was later rescued by the local people and shifted to hospital, police said.
Maoists are active in three western districts of the state - West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
