Maoists blow up Jharkhand rail track

Ranchi, June 16 (IANS) Maoist guerrillas blasted a rail track and a mobile phone tower in Jharkhand Thursday during a 24-hour shutdown called by them to protest the arrest of one of their top leaders, police said.

Maoist guerrillas blasted a railway track near Mohammad Ganj station of Palamau district early Thursday, they said.

The track was repaired and services resumed after eight hours.

In another incident, Maoist rebels blasted a mobile phone tower of a private company at Mali village in Palamau, they added.

Maoists also set ablaze part of a railway station and blew up five mobile phone towers in Bihar Thursday.

The rebels are protesting the arrest of Jagdish Yadav alias Jagdish Master, politburo member of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). He was arrested June 12 from Gaya in Bihar after evading arrest for over a decade.
