Maoists blast rail tracks in Chhattisgarh
September 27th, 2011 - 9:54 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Sep 27 (IANS) Maoist rebels blew up a portion of rail tracks Tuesday in Chhattisgarh’s violence-hit Dantewada district, police said.
The damage to the tracks near Bhansi railway station, halted transportation of iron ore by the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Ltd, India’s largest iron ore producer and exporter in public sector, from its facilities at Kirandul and Bacheli in Dantewada to Andhra Pradesh’s port city, Visakhapatnam.
“The blast has completely stopped services on K-K rail line under Waltair division in East Coast Railway. Police authorities are fully co-operating with railway authorities who are trying hard to restore services on the key rail route as early as possible,” Dantewada police chief Ankit Garg told reporters in Dantewada town, some 380 km south of Raipur.
The blasts on rail tracks in Maoist’s stronghold Dantewada came on the last day of the weeklong foundation anniversary celebrations. The Communist Party of India-Maoist is celebrating its anniversary as it was founded on Sep 21, 2004 with the merger of the Peoples’ War Group (PWG) and Maoist Communist Centre (MCC).
