The incident took place Monday night in a village in Bastar region’s Kanker district, about 320 km from here.
Dozens of Maoists stormed into the village and detonated explosives to blast the under-construction barrack meant for paramilitary troopers to intensify anti-Maoist operations in the forests of Kanker, T.J. Longkumer, inspector general of police, told IANS.
Maoists also left a few leaflets at the site claiming they would not allow barracks to be built in Bastar. Insurgents had also put a tiffin bomb at the site that was defused by the policemen who reached the village to probe the incident.
The Chhattisgarh government has scaled up security across the state ahead of the Maoists’ weeklong Dec 2-8 anniversary celebrations of the People’s Liberation of Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the military wing of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist).
