Maoists attack police party in Chhattisgarh
August 19th, 2011 - 10:40 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Aug 19 (IANS) Maoist rebels Friday attacked a police contingent in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, police officials said, adding that casualties were feared.
“There is a massive attack on dozens of policemen in the jungles of the state’s Bijapur district. There are some casualties but the ground situation is unclear as the area is heavily mined and densely forested,” a source at police headquarters here told IANS.
Another police official, who did not wish to be identified, said that at least 11 people, including 10 state police personnel, were killed in the attack.
The attack site is located some 500 km south of Raipur.
