Maoist nabbed in Uttar Pradesh, explosives seized
May 4th, 2011 - 12:43 am ICT by IANSSonbhadra (Uttar Pradesh), May 3 (IANS) A Maoist, who operated in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, was arrested here following a brief shoot-out, a senior police official said Tuesday.
Sashikant alias Naval Pandit, aged around 35 years, was nabbed late Monday night and explosives seized from him in Vindaganj town.
“Several detonators, gelatin rods and a pistol were seized from Sashikant, who worked for the Munna Vishwakarma gang,” Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar told reporters at a press conference in Sonbhadra, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“Sashikant is involved in attacks on a police team in Rohtas district in Bihar. He had at least six criminal cases against him in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh,” Kumar added.
According to police, Sashikant has provided vital clues about his other gang members operating in various districts of Uttar Pradesh.
