Maoist landmine kills one in Jharkhand
November 26th, 2009 - 2:37 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Nov 26 (IANS) A day after the first phase of assembly elections, Maoist guerrillas triggered a landmine in Khuti district Thursday killing a policeman and injuring four civilians, police said.
Jharkhand police spokesperson V.H. Deshmukh said that a police team was on routine patrol when the blast took place in Jorana village, 70 km from here.
“A head constable was killed and four other people were injured. The jeep was hit by a landmine planted on the roadside,” Deshmukh told IANS.
Security personnel who were injured were air lifted to the Apollo hospital here. Khuti will see elections in the second phase Dec 2.
Maoists also blew up a school building in Chandri village of Chatra district late Wednesday.
This is the ninth instance of Maoists targeting school buildings this month. The rebels have been targeting schools as security forces use them to camp during elections.
The five-phased assembly polls end Dec 18. The vote count is due Dec 23.
