Maoist killed in Junglemahal
February 5th, 2012 - 9:45 pm ICT by IANSWest Midnapore, (West Bengal) Feb 5 (IANS) A Maoist involved in several acts of violence was killed in a gun battle with security forces here Sunday, police said.
Judhisthir Mahato, alias Arjun, was an active member of the Maoist squad led by Madan Mahato. A 9 mm pistol has been recovered from him, West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Gaurav Sharma said.
The place where the gun battle took place is near the Jharkhand border and Arjun probably was trying to go the other side, Sharma added.
After top rebel leader Koteshwar Rao alias Kishenji was shot dead by security forces Nov 24, 2011, this is the second killing of a Maoist member in Junglemahal — the forested stretches of the three West Bengal districts of Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore where the Maoists have a stronghold.
