The gun battle broke out in Kanker district’s iron ore rich Rowghat area, about 300 km south of capital Raipur.
“Rebels opened fire on a contingent of BSF and District Force personnel and they retaliated strongly. One rebel was killed on the spot while several of his colleagues managed to escape. We recovered some arms and explosives from the encounter site,” officials at the police headquarters here told IANS.
