Maoist-hit states top in terror incidents
August 9th, 2011 - 8:41 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS) Maoist-affected states have witnessed more incidents of terrorist violence than Jammu and Kashmir and northeastern states in the last six months, parliament was informed Tuesday.
There have been as many as 1,041 incidents of terrorist violence in the Maoist-affected states as compared to 202 terrorist acts in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh said in a written statement in the Lok Sabha. As for northeastern states, the number violent incidents stood at 338, till July 31.
According to ministry records, 254 civilians have died in Maoist-related incidents, 39 persons died in northeastern states and 25 civilians in terrorist acts in Jammu and Kashmir.
