Maoist camp destroyed in Odisha
August 8th, 2012 - 1:10 am ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Aug 7 (IANS) A Maoist camp was destroyed Tuesday and several arms and weapons were seized in a forested area of Odisha, police said.
Based on a tip off provided by a rebel arrested recently, security forces attacked the camp located on the border of Keonjhar and Jajpur districts, police officer K.C. Mund said.
The rebels who were camping there managed to flee before the arrival of security forces, leaving behind their arms, ammunition and other materials, he said.
The arms and explosives seized from the site during a search include seven pistols, 146 bullets and several detonators, he added.
The Maoists are active in more than half of Odisha. They have a strong presence in the mineral-rich districts of Keonjhar and Jajpur.
