Nagpur, May 5 (IANS) At least six members of a marriage party were killed and four others injured when Maoists exploded a landmine in a forested area in Dhanora region of Gadchiroli district Thursday afternoon, police said.

“One more person was declared dead by late evening,” a police officer said.

Five people were declared dead late Thursday afternoon after the explosion.

According to the official from Gadhiroli police control room, the marriage party was returning home by road from the adjoining Chhattisgarh state to Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district.

As per preliminary information available with the police, a powerful landmine exploded on a road in the thick forests of Dhanora sub-district, ripping through the vehicle.

“It was a Bolero jeep carrying the people. We suspect that the Maoists mistook it for a police jeep,” the officer added.

Top district police officials, the Anti-Naxalite Squad and other security forces have rushed to the region for investigations, the official said.
