New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) After a heated argument, a man stabbed his wife in front of their minor son and fled from the house, police said Thursday.

“After an argument with his wife Chhoti over some domestic issue Wednesday night, Amarjeet Sahni stabbed her in the chest with a sharp-edged weapon and fled the spot,” said a senior police officer.

The couple lived in Vijay Vihar area in south Delhi.

It was the couple’s neighbour Kamlesh who discovered the crime. After seeing Amarjeet, 34, running away from home at around 11 p.m. Wednesday, Kamlesh went to their house and saw Chhoti, 30, lying bleeding on the bed.

Kamlesh then alerted the other neighbours, who then informed police.

“Chhoti was taken to Sanjay Gandhi hospital but succumbed to her injuries during treatment,” said the officer.

“The couple’s four-and-half year old son told us that his father killed his mother after an argument. Sahni, a native of Muzaffarpur in Bihar, is absconding and we are trying to trace him,” said the officer.

“We have also informed the family members in Bihar and they are on their way here,” the officer added.
