Mumbai, Dec 2 (IANS) A man Friday approached a Mumbai special court hearing journalist J. Dey’s murder case, saying that he wants to surrender four SIM cards and four mobile phones given to him by Jigna Vora, a prime accused and the victim’s colleague.

Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Special Judge S.M. Modak would Saturday take up for further proceedings the application filed by Murtuza. A charge sheet is also likely to be filed against 10 accused.

Dey, editor (special investigations) at Mid-Day, was shot dead June 11 near his home in Powai in central Mumbai while he was riding home on his motorcycle.

Murtuza approached the special court saying that Vora had sold to him four SIM cards and four mobile phones.

“These mobile phones and cards, according to the application, were given by Jigna,” said Special Public Prosecutor Dilip Shah.

The court Thursday extended Vora’s custody till Dec 5. Vora, who was arrested last week in connecting with the killing, had allegedly sold her mobile phone which she was using around the time Dey was killed.

Shah had sought another eight days’ police custody for Vora to enable police carry out more investigations on the same.

Police earlier seized computer hard disks and other material from Vora which they wanted to investigate. The special judge granted police custody of Vora only till Dec 5.

Working as deputy bureau chief with a Mumbai daily, Vora was arrested Nov 25 by the crime branch in connection with the June 11 killing of Dey.

Vora is among the 11 accused arrested in the case.
