January 17th, 2011 - 10:44 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS) A man, who commuted daily to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut city and preferred a perch on the train roof, was electrocuted when the train entered Shahdara station in east Delhi, police said Monday.”Monu, 18, was travelling on the rooftop of a train coming from Himachal Pradesh and accidentally touched the high-tension wire when the train entered the Shahdara Railway Station Sunday and was electrocuted,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) B.S. Gujjar told IANS.
Monu, who worked in Delhi, had made it his habit to travel on the roof of the train instead of trying to board the overcrowded compartment.
“He was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where doctors declared him dead,” Gujjar said. Monu’s family has been informed.
