New Delhi, Jan 18 (IANS) A 30-year-old collection agent of a gas agency was shot at and critically injured by four assailants in west Delhi when he resisted their bid to snatch his bag containing cash, police said Wednesday.

The incident was reported Tuesday night from Kirari area of Sultanpur.

Surjan Singh received two bullets on his chest and was taken to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

The agent was returning to the gas agency with his friend, Saroj Kumar Mishra, when the robbers intercepted his bike, threw chilli power in his eyes and tried to snatch the bag from Mishra.

“When Singh resisted their attempt, he was shot at,” said a police official.

The accused fled from the spot with the bag containing the amount. “A case regarding the incident has been registered and hunt is on to nab the culprits,” added the official.

There is a difference between the statement given by the victims and the agency owner, Ranveer Singh Dabas.

“Initially the victims claimed that the amount was Rs.1,800 but later told police that the money was in lakhs. Investigation is on into the matter,” added the officer.
