Man pursuing chain-snatchers shot

New Delhi, June 12 (IANS) A man was shot at and injured Sunday while he was chasing two motorbike-borne robbers who snatched his wife’s chain near a Metro station in east Delhi, police said.

“Surendra Chaddha, in his early 30s, along with his wife Anju came outside the Shahdara Metro Station at around 4 p.m today (Sunday). Chaddha went towards parking lot to take his bike and meanwhile two-bike borne assailants finding Anju alone snatched the chain from her neck,” said a senior police officer.

Anju cried for help. Chadda rushed there on his bike and then started chasing the assailants.

“The pillion rider realising they were being chased shot at Chaddha, hitting him in the stomach. The victim drove himself to a nearby hospital,” said the officer.

Police rushed to the spot and then shifted Chaddha to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where his condition is stable.

Meanwhile, police registered a case and issued an alert in nearby areas. Temporary barricades were set up in the area and a search was on for the culprits, said the officer.
