January 3rd, 2011 - 4:22 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Jan 3 (IANS) A mob lynched a man in Kaushambhi in Uttar Pradesh after he was found sneaking into a house, police said Monday. The body of Deshraj, 45, was recovered Sunday from in Baksha village on the outskirts of Kaushambhi, some 250 km from Lucknow.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the locals of the Baksha village assaulted Deshraj with wooden sticks, iron roads and bricks after he was caught sneaking into the house of Ravi Kumar,” police inspector Abdul Haleem told reporters.
“It appears that Deshraj was attacked early Sunday or late Saturday, and later the villagers dumped his body on the outskirts of the village in an attempt to misguide the police,” he said.
According to police, Deshraj was involved in five-six cases of thefts in Kaushambhi.
“It’s true Deshraj was a thief, but it doesn’t mean people can take law in their hands for killing criminals. Action would surely be taken against those involved in the killing. Investigations are on in this regard,” said Haleem.
