Man jumps to death from high-rise building in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) A 35-year-old employee of Engineers India Ltd (EIL) Monday allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a high-rise building in Bhikaji Cama Place in south Delhi, the police said.Rajinder Kumar, deputy manager in the piping department of the EIL on the seventh floor of the building, jumped to death in the morning.

However it was not clear from which floor he jumped. He was rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. No suicide note was recovered from him.

According to police official it is not possible for anyone to jump from the seventh floor. “We suspect that he might have jumped from the ninth floor of the building. It would be clear only in the post-mortem examination.”

Kumar was resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad. He is survived by his wife, an eight-year-old son and a three-month old daughter.

The police said Kumar reached his office around 8.35 a.m. and then went missing. After half-an-hour he was found lying on the ground floor of the building. The police were questioning his family and relatives.

“We are shocked. He was fine and was making arrangements for his two brothers who were to get married next month. We have no clue why he took such an extreme step,” said one of his relatives.
