London, Dec 14 (IANS) A Briton has been jailed for six months for stealing over 700 eggs belonging to some of the most endangered birds in the country.

Matthew Gonshaw was found guilty by a London court, The Sun reported Wednesday.

Police and investigators from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) raided 49-year-old Gonshaw’s home and found the eggs.

Rare eggs in his collection include those of golden eagle, osprey, avocet, peregrine and red kite among other species.

The officials also found camouflage clothing, climbing equipment and maps detailing nesting spots.

Gonshaw has been jailed three times for similar offences.

“Gonshaw’s actions directly jeopardise Britain’s wildlife. His obsession with collecting eggs threatens some of our rarest and most precious species,” said Stephen Rodgers of the Metropolitan Police’s wildlife crime unit.
