Man in relationship with niece held for killing her husbandApril 23rd, 2009 - 8:46 pm ICT by IANS
Mohali (Punjab), April 23 (IANS) A man who had an illicit relationship with his niece was arrested Thursday for allegedly killing his son-in-law more than six months ago in Kharar district of Punjab, police here said.
Sukhwinder Singh burnt his son-in-law Gurcharan Singh, 30, to death in October last year in Kharar, around 10 km from here.
The burnt body of Gurcharan, a resident of Chandigarh, was found along the rail tracks with deep wounds to his head and neck. He was married only two months earlier to Kamaljeet Kaur.
“We have arrested Sukhwinder Singh and he has confessed to his crime. Sukhwinder had illicit relations with Kamaljeet and he was unhappy with her marriage to another man,” said an official of the Government Railway Police.
“Sukhwinder lives in Ambala town in Haryana. Scrutiny of his call details gave us vital clues that helped in solving the case. Kamaljeet was also involved in hatching a conspiracy with her uncle to kill her husband.”
Gurcharan ran an electronics shop in Kharar. He was returning to Chandigarh after closing his shop when Sukhwinder came to meet him. The accused took him near the railway track there and attacked him. He burnt Gurcharan alive by dousing him with petrol and also torched the deceased’s bike at some distance from there.
