April 21st, 2011 - 11:42 am ICT by IANSRaipur, April 21 (IANS) A man in his 60s was arrested with silver worth Rs.2.4 million in Chhattisgarh Thursday.
The arrest was made by crime branch squad of local police in the state’s Janjgir-Champa district, some 150 km from here.
“Chinnaswami, 66, who belonged to Tamil Nadu, was caught by a police team while smuggling silver worth Rs.2.4 million to a local jewellery shop owner,” said Ajitesh Singh, a crime branch official in Janjgir.
“We believe that the silver was stolen from somewhere outside the state,” he added.
Singh informed that more arrests of local jewellery shop owners were likely this week as Chinnaswamy was supplying silver illegally to them for several months.
