Man held with fake notes
April 20th, 2011 - 9:41 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 20 (IANS) A 22-year-old man was arrested in east Delhi for carrying counterfeit currency notes of Rs.500 denomination with a notional value of over Rs.1 lakh, police said Wednesday.
“Jubair Alam was arrested from east Delhi on Sunday (April 17),” Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand said.
“Counterfeit currency of Rs.1,10,000, in Rs.500 notes, was recovered from him,” he added.
Police said that Alam worked as a scrap dealer in Gandhi Nagar in east Delhi. He used to procure counterfeit notes from a Bangladeshi national Maqsood for a commission of 10 percent per note.
Alam told police that Maqsood used to get the fake notes from Bangladesh, which were brought to Delhi by train from Kolkata.
Maqsood is absconding.
