Mohali (Punjab), Sep 2 (IANS) A man was arrested in Punjab’s Zirakpur town near Chandigarh and 960 grams of cocaine worth Rs.10 million was seized from him, the police said Tuesday.”On a secret tip-off, Mumtaz Ahmad, a resident of Hathin village in Haryana, was arrested while his accomplice Nafeez Ahmad managed to flee under the cover of darkness. The consignment has been confiscated,” Jatinder Singh Aulakh, senior superintendent of police Mohali, told media persons Tuesday.
The police received information late Monday evening that the two people were standing at the Zirakpur bus stand with a bag in their hand. They conducted a raid, leading to Mumtaz’s arrest, he said.
The police busted a high-profile drug trafficking racket Aug 29 involving a former defence official, two Haryana police officials and one Rajasthan police official.
The police sources said that during interrogation it was revealed that Mumtaz had visited Pakistan in May 2006 and March 2007. The purpose of his visits could not be ascertained yet.
“The accused has no connection with those accused arrested Aug 29 in drug trafficking,” said Aulakh.
