New Delhi, March 8 (IANS) He had simple dreams of buying a house and leading a comfortable married life, but 22-year-old Ranjit Soni took a dangerous path to realise those dreams, killing his former employee’s wife in the process.

Ranjit, a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, planned a robbery and killed 59-year-old Kiran Soni at her house in Harsh Vihar in east Delhi Sunday.

“The house had been robbed but the assailant could not succeed to break open the lock of the safe in the almirah. The evidence suggested that someone known to the family was involved as there was no proof of a struggle to enter the house,” a police officer said.

As the victim’s husband had a jewellery shop on the ground floor of the house, all the former and present employees were questioned except for Ranjit, who was not found at his given address, police said.

Ranjit was finally apprehended near the Delhi-Ghaziabad border Monday.

“He wanted to buy a house and lead a comfortable married life. Being their employee, he knew that the aged couple were the only ones residing in the flat and the victim’s husband regularly went to Ghaziabad for business purposes,” the officer said.

The accused, along with his relatives Anup and Anshu, entered the house and demanded the keys to the almirah. When Soni resisted, they hit her on the head, police said.

However midway into the robbery, one of the shop workers knocked on the door. Frightened, they fled from the house, managing to steal just four gold rings, some silver anklets, nose pins and a bracelet.

“We have recovered two gold rings, three pairs of anklets, a bracelet, some silver articles and blood stained clothes. Anshu and Anup are still absconding,” the officer added.
