Man held for killing daughter to practise witchcraft
April 28th, 2010 - 10:08 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, April 28 (IANS) A man was Wednesday arrested in Orissa’s Malkangiri district for allegedly killing his daughter to practise witchcraft, police said.
Ganga Madkami, a resident of Tigal village in the district, hit his five-year-old daughter Some Madkami on the head with a wooden block Tuesday trying to kill her. Some neighbours rescued the child but she succumbed to her injuries while being taken to hospital.
“Madkami practises witchcraft in the village. He was trying to kill his daughter for witchcraft. We are investigating the case,” a police officer said.
“My brother was trying to kill his daughter for witchcraft which he used to practice since long,” said Kana Madkami, Ganga’s brother.
Malkangiri is some 600 km from Bhubaneswar.
