December 27th, 2011 - 11:36 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 27 (IANS) A 35-year-old engineering graduate has been held for duping people to the tune of Rs.50 lakh by promising them railway jobs, police said Tuesday.
Amar Thakur, who had a fake identity card in the name of Sandeep Aggarwalla, was arrested from Guwahati in Assam.
He and his associates ran a fake website of Railway Recruitment Board Kolkata — RRBKolkatasq.org — Deputy Commissioner of Police A.K. Ojha said.
Ojha said police received many complaints from Bihar on the issue.
Thakur’s associate would charge Rs.4 lakh from people who wanted a railways job, after which they were called to Kolkata for a medical examination and thereafter issued fake appointment letters.
“One complainant, Kishan, also joined as Group D employee at railway workshop in Howrah but was expelled soon. He later found out that his appointment letter was fake,” Ojha said.
A police team from Delhi raided Thakur’s in-law’s house in Guwahati and nabbed him.
During interrogation, Thakur disclosed that he was in the trade for the last two years.
“They targeted people who were convinced by their smooth talking. They learnt this specific modus operandi from a Hindi film,” the officer added.
Thakur’s associates are now on the run.
