Man held for impersonating as judicial officer

New Delhi, June 14 (IANS) A 31-year-old court employee was arrested in south Delhi for impersonating as a judicial officer and attempting to dupe a policeman, police said Tuesday.

“Vishal Arora, a resident of Kotla Mubarakpur in south Delhi, was held Monday from Sarojini Nagar area,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.

Arora works in the record section of the Saket courts. He earlier worked as peon at Tis Hazari courts.

Police said that Arora Monday called the Station House Officer of the Sarojini Nagar police station and introduced himself as a judicial officer posted in a Delhi court. He told him he was out of the city and his nephew Deepak Aggarwal had lost Rs.15,000 in Sarojini Nagar market and was in urgent need of money.

The SHO grew suspicious and laid a trap by asking the caller to send his nephew to meet him and collect the money as a loan.

When Arora appeared before the SHO posing as Deepak Aggarwal to collect the money, he was arrested.

During interrogation, Arora told police that he impersonated both as the judicial officer and Aggarwal.

Arora said he was had an extra-marital affair and to meet his expenses he planned to cheat people by impersonating as a judicial officer.
