March 20th, 2011 - 12:04 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 19 (IANS) A man who would impersonate as a policeman and extort money from people was arrested after one of his victims recognised him, police said Saturday.
Viresh Singh, 40, was apprehended from Subhash Nagar in west Delhi Friday when he threatened Deepak Grover, whom he had duped earlier, police said.
“He went to Deepak who was in his car and alleged that he (the victim) was drunk and demanded money to let him go. However, Deepak recognized him as the same officer who had earlier taken money from him by making the same allegation,” a police official said.
According to police, Singhs’ father is a retired Delhi Police officer. If he found any suspicious person he would threaten him and demand money.
Singh was in construction business but broke ties with his partner. He took to crime soon after to sustain himself and to earn easy money, added the officer.
