Man held for dowry killing in Chandigarh
June 14th, 2010 - 10:21 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 14 (IANS) A man was arrested on the charge of killing his wife for dowry while three others were booked in the case here Monday, police said.
Naresh Kumar is accused of killing his wife Sangeet Sunday by giving her poison.
“We got a complaint from the deceased’s father Prithvi Singh that Sangeet’s in-laws were harassing her to bring more cash and dowry items. Based on the complaint we have registered a case against the deceased’s husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law,” a police officer said.
He added: “So far we have only arrested the accused husband. However, we are waiting for the post mortem examination report and our investigation is still on. We can make more arrests once it is over.”
Sangeet, a resident of Sector 20 here, had married Naresh, who lives here in Sector 27, in April this year.
