Man held for debit card fraud

State Bank of India New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) A man has been arrested for getting somebody else’s debit card fraudulently and using it for various purchases, police said Thursday.

“Amit Sabharwal, a resident of Bakarwala in wew Delhi, was arrested Wednesday from his home,” said a senior police officer.

During interrogation, Sabharwal told police that two months ago he got the bank details of Bharat Katyal, a resident of Ashok Nagar area of West Delhi, by impersonating a State Bank of India employee and then got Hatyal’s debit card.

“When Katyal discovered on April 29 that an amount of Rs. 61,847 has been debited from his account, he filed a police complaint,” said the officer.

Sabharwal also told police he had started business of supplying wafers but he suffered loss and after that he entered into share market but there too he was unsuccessful.

“Sabharwal, then, joined a company which deals with the verification of various people applying for bank loans. It was there he got an idea to commit the crime,” said the officer.

Sabharwal also told police that he made various purchases from Big Bazar, Apple and Reliance Fresh outlets with Katyal’s card.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have warned the citizens to beware of calls from people asking for bank details.
